Operations Manager
Own the operational backbone of the firm: finance operations, HR, vendor management, and the operational discipline the firm requires to scale.
Compensation: £55,000 to £80,000 base, plus equity
About the Role
At the present stage of the firm, the operational scope is broad and the headcount is modest. This role is the operational generalist that holds the firm together: managing the relationships with the accountants, the lawyers, the bank, the office, the payroll, and the day-to-day operational matters that the engineering and product team should not be diverted to.
Responsibilities
- Own the firm's finance operations in collaboration with external accountants: invoicing, accounts payable, payroll, expense management, and the management accounts.
- Lead the HR function: hiring administration, onboarding, the employment-contract framework, and the basic posture of People operations as the team grows.
- Manage the relationship with the firm's vendors and service providers.
- Own the office, the equipment, and the operational infrastructure that supports the team's work.
- Identify and address the operational frictions that, if neglected, would consume engineering and product attention.
What We Are Looking For
- Five or more years of operations experience, ideally at a small or growing firm.
- Strong administrative discipline and a bias towards making operational problems go away rather than escalating them.
- Comfortable with a broad operational scope; not seeking the specialist depth of a finance or HR-only role.
- Capability to communicate clearly with external professional advisors.
Helpful but Not Required
- Prior startup operations experience, particularly through a phase of headcount expansion.
- Familiarity with the UK regulatory environment for small businesses.
